ThickSkin is the overall plumbing system, including many parts and functions enveloped in a hanging curtain of ScumBag shingles. within these bags are liquid environments for growing marketables algae and other plant organisms. behind this skin is a space for growing phyto filters. these filter plants are chosen to provide a useful, harvestable product (food, bio-medical, etc.) as well as to provide shading and passive cooling for a building, and to assist in the air purification process. the plants grow from suspended DirtClods, which are wire-constrained growing-medium objects filled with the appropriate mix of soil, moss, and nutrients. GasHuff is the collection and distrubution system for capturing, recycling and redistributing the gases present in the building and skin structure. from within the building, one can extract carbon-dioxide rich air which has been exhaled by humans and machines. if it is let go into the atmosphere, it is a pollutant which contributes to the greenhouse effect and global warming. if captured and introduced into the growing zone of the system, CO² in concentrated levels becomes a beneficial nutrient which contributes to faster and more productive plant growth. the complete system becomes a PhytoCurtain, providing multiple complementary service functions for its host building, while at the same timeproducing marketable products and services, cleaning air and water, and making and everchanging, live-film skin full of plants and scum and shadows and people and light and motion.
